Just call me cracker
Of all the changes and modernizations our society has seen in past years you would think we would eventually get past this whole "us and them" mentality. But, it's not happening.
There have been a number of movements over the years that just make me sick, but the move to make our speech politically correct has to be the worst.
Don't misunderstand me, it's not my goal to offend anyone and I usually don't. However, the words "they" (just who are they anyhow?) are trying to censor from our speech aren't that offensive.
We'll start with "hyphenated-Americanism". This one eats me up. Whether black, white, yellow or purple, most of us were born in America with at least two or three generations before us also born here (with the exception of "Mexican-Americans"). That technically makes you an American.
Not a Japanese-American, African-American or a Mexican American. Just a plain old, boring un-hyphenated American. Is that really so bad?
How about mailman? Now we have "postal carriers," but were you ever really offended by mailman or do you know one who is?
This is all just silly. Even handicapped is considered to be offensive now and that replaced "crippled"? Was that step not good enough so now they have to be called "physically challenged?" How long before we decide that's offensive, too?
I'm 5'4" and I'm not "vertically challenged." Just plain old short. Nothing more, nothing less.
Does this bother anyone else, or are you offended, too? Check this list out for fun.

What I don't understand about the SEMO mascot situation is why they considered it offensive. In the case of a team, they wanting to show bravery, stamina and toughness. Is that such an insult? The name (or any other name for that matter) was never intended to offend anyone and anyone who is, in my opinion, is just looking to stir up trouble.
The people who get so tied up in knots over this whole PC revolution REALLY need a hobby.
BTW...Carlin's little talk is what sparked my interest in talking about this.
Thanks for your input
Another question...how could cracker be offensive? Or even Indian? Or Black?
I just don't understand. None of those words are offensive on their own accord? I wouldn't take offense to being called white, warrior or even chair! What's the big deal?
