Matheny pre-game comments 8/5/13
Here are a few tidbits from Matheny's pre-game presser. Look for more throughout the evening.
WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET PEDs OUT OF THE GAME?
"I think it takes big decisions--tough decisions--in order to make changes. Unfortunately, this is going to be a black eye to our game but that's one of the steps of moving forward."
DO YOU SEE THIS HOMESTAND AS THIS AN OPPORTUNITY TO START A RUN?
"Nope. One at a time¬like always. We're happy to be home though, I'll tell you that. Everybody is happy to be here and hopefully continue playing some good baseball. "
ON MOVING ON FROM LOSING STREAK
"The last game was good. We beat ourselves up and we paid for it in every way you can possibly pay for it. To sit here and rehash and dig it up or beat ourselves up again does us zero good."
WILL DRUG TESTING WILL HELP CLEAN UP THE GAME?
"I hope so. I think everybody thought it was going the right direction before. It's always going to be a challenge because there's going to be people trying to push it in different directions. It's going to be kind of a cat and mouse game. Hopefully the guys will give up on that and realize that the risk is not worth the reward and they find a way to put that behind them as an option."
ARE YOU BREATHING A SIGH OF RELIEF AFTER BIOGENESIS SUSPENSIONS WERE ANNOUNCED? NO SURPRISES?
"You never know. None of our guys' names were on that list. I've said it before, we don't sit around and judge people for the decisions they make. People do things for reasons that we don't know, understand or have all of the information on. We try to support our guys, but we also try to encourage them to make good decisions--in the short term, and for the long haul and the good of our organization. There are going to be some tough conversations in other organizations that had people come out in this."
"You try to put feelers out there because no one wants to be surprised. You never know for sure until you see the list. It was obviously good news not to see any of our guys on the list. "
"None of our guys were there and we're able to go on with business as usual."
