All Dexter Schools will host registration on Monday, Aug. 8 and Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bearcat Event Center located on Grant Street. One Mile Road is undergoing resurfacing this week. A stretch from Business 60 to Arvin Road (above) was closed yesterday while work proceeded. Today work is scheduled to be concluded on the area from Arvin Rd. south to the railroad tracks.

Joe Brown still lives in the house in which he was born some 89 years ago. Brown's home is off Highway P in the northeast part of Stoddard County. He is a story teller, having written seven books and many booklets. He even submitted occasional stories to the old Bloomfield Vindicator. He was a POW in World War II, and served as a member of the Crowder-Zeta Special Road District for 52 years. He is colorful...

When a local Advance woman, Holly French recently bought cheese at Schnuck's Market in Cape Girardeau she was surprised to see a local address on the label--27077 County Rd. 307, Advance, Missouri. "It was delicious!" said French, who promptly called the Advance reporter to do a story on this new local business...

Karen L. Illers, age 58, of Jackson, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 03, 2011 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Carrie LeBeau, daughter of the late James L. Gray and Mary Keaster Gray was born on Nov. 12, 1919 in Kinder, Mo. and died on Aug. 2, 2011 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 91. Mrs. LeBeau was a member of the Kinder General Baptist Church, a home-maker and a resident of Dexter...
