A soggy Saturday weighed heavily on this year's attendance at the Historic Downtown Dexter Association Fall Fest. Sparse morning crowds picked up slightly toward noon just prior to the annual Young Realty Pie Eating Contest, but showers once again dampened spirits later in the day...

Frances E. Womack, daughter of the late Elgin Shaw and Ida Golden Haynes, was born on Oct. 8, 1926, in rural Hayti, Mo., and died on Oct. 12, 2014, at her residence in Dexter at the age of 88. Joyce M. Chapman, daughter of the late Thomas Edgar Griffin and Viola Ester Hume, was born in Malden, Mo., on Oct. 26, 1934, and died at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Home in Dexter on Oct.14, 2014, at the age of 79. Mrs. Chapman had lived around the Essex area her entire life. She was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church in Essex. She had worked at Hart Truck Lines and Fram Filters as their secretary and as a cook at Richland Schools...

Carl Francis Robbins, age 101, of Dexter, died on Oct.13, 2014, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter. He was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Greenville, Mo; son of Marion Francis and Emma Florence Myers Robbins. Mr. Robbins retired from the Chevrolet Manufacturing plant in Flint Mich., and was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church in Bernie...

Onie Clark, was born April 6, 1928, near Malden and died at her home in Essex on Oct. 12, 2014, at the age of 86. Watkins and Sons Funeral Services of Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

Mitchell "Mitch" Calvin Conner, son of the late Calvin Granvil Conner and Betty Stoker Taylor of Dexter, was born on June 29, 1961, in Dexter and died on Oct. 11, 2014, at his residence in Cape Girardeau at the age of 53. Mr. Conner worked as a network administrator at Associate Electric in New Madrid. ...
