Kyle Smith Memorial Scholarship

The first Kyle Smith Memorial Scholarship was awarded to John Nimmo of Bernie. Smith, the scholarship’s namesake was the longtime sports editor for the Dexter Statesman. He passed away suddenly in March. The scholarship is worth $500 and will be awarded annually to an student athlete from Stoddard County. The Dexter Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Lighthouse Drive Wednesday morning. Dexter Fire Chief Don Seymore said a vehicle pulling a trailer overheated and caught fire. VAN BUREN, Mo. — Dylan Hanger, 30, of Mountain View, pleaded guilty to murder in the 2nd degree after stabbing his ex-wife to death in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways park. According to court documents, on or about May 20, 2020, Hanger met his estranged wife Brittany Gorman at the Buck Hollow Access Area, along the Jacks Fork River, within Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Texas County.
