At the center of the above photo is Riley Rickman, a DHS 2014 graduate who learned midway through her senior year that she had leukemia. When her classmates learned of her plight, they went to work, sponsoring a number of fundraising events to help the Rickman family with the medical and travel expenses they have experienced throughout Riley's hospital stay and subsequent ongoing treatment. On Friday, Student Body President Zach Sims, second from left, along with STUCO sponsor and counselor, Jennifer Miller, at far left, presented Riley and her parents, Robin and Tony Rickman, with funds that were raised at the school through their recent penny wars project and through the revival of the Mr. DHS Contest. The combined projects netted a total of $5,000. The Rickman family expressed their sincere thanks to all of the Dexter students who had a part in the various school-sponsored events held in honor of their daughter.
