Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 07/04/2014

Friday, July 4, 2014

Hay harvest is in high gear around the state. Many of those fields that were uncut just a week ago have now changed to the form of large round bales. In just the last week the state has seen not only the hottest day of the year so far but also record lows in some areas. Grass hay quality and yields have been fairly disappointing for most producers this year as Mother Nature just hasn’t played very nice. Producers are however thankful to see hay piles grow with at least something for winter feeding. Hay supply is moderate, demand is light to moderate, and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed,
or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ or for
current listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices
f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales
price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights
of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).

Missouri Regional Fescue Seed Prices (07/03/2014)

Compared to last week, bids were steady. Harvest has been in full swing the past week and should be mostly wrapped up by the time all the smoke from the 4th of July fireworks clears. Large carry over from last year resulting in light demand as well as a limited crop this year has interest and excitement from both buyers and producers at a pretty low level.
