The Advance RIV School Board met on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 with all members present.

Dates were set for the opening of bids for the new FEMA Safe room, with the first meeting being on Oct. 15 to open bids.

Architect Brett Dille and engineer Tom Strickland opened bids in high school library at 1 p.m., Oct. 15. Four companies attended--Zoellner Construction from Perryville, Kiefner Construction from Jackson, Sides Construction from Jackson, and Brockmiller Construction from Farmington. The bid totals were read aloud, but there was no action on the bids at that time. The figures were made available for the administration, school board, project manager, architect, and engineer to study.

On Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, there will be a special school board meeting 6 p.m meeting in the high school library to take action on the bids. This is an open meeting.

On Oct. 29, 2015, there will be a 1 p.m. meeting in the library to consider bids for the bleachers in the FEMA room. These bleachers will need to be custom made, so they are considered separately from the rest of the building.

In other business, board members learned that the district has received a $10,000 savings on the FEMA building through Semo Electric, as a result of a transformer upgrade issue.

The board was also updated on the new Vo Ag building, as follows: Painting is done in the classroom, the utilities are done, and the building has water. Students will begin moving into the building on Oct. 30, and, unless something comes up, classes will be in the building by that date.

Much of the work on the Vo Ag building has been done "in-house," with the district functioning as its own general contractor. Therefore, the project is expected to come in under budget.

"We will schedule a building dedication to let the community see the new facility," Superintendent Stan Seiler reported. "Vo Ag students will now have room to work on projects."

In other business, administrators went over the 2014 MAP scores, the ACT scores from 2015, and the Annual Progress Report (APR), but the State has "embargoed" much of the current results, so the information will come out at a later date.

In his elementary report, Principal James Hamlin went over the results with the board and said that the district will not adopt any new textbooks, until the state releases its new standards in May, 2016. He said that most books have interactive texts, which seem to be effective in capturing student interest.

The superintendent's report revealed a current enrollment of 430 students with an attendance rate of 96.48 percent.

Professional Development teams have met twice this year and have another meeting with the other cooperating schools on Nov. 13 at the Oak Ridge Schools.

The board reviewed the financial dashboard, which can be seen on the district website, the maintenance report, the newest MSBA policy updates, and approved the bus routes.. They also heard Missouri School Improvement Program reports in the areas of transportation, vocational programs, certification and planning time and the district local assessment plan. A bus request for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes was also approved.

A statement was read by Matt Curtis to be considered in closed session. No action was taken at that time.
