Dexter Schools not on lockdown following minor security concern

Thursday, October 10, 2019

Dexter Schools never went on an official lockdown this morning after what Assistant Superintendent Gavin Miller described as a minor situation. Miller stated that the school district's SRO officers were contacted this morning after Dexter Police received a call reporting a man had been sighted with a shotgun around the intersection of ZZ Highway and County Road 612 (Grant Street).

Miller stated that the Dexter Police asked the administration to keep the students inside until further investigation could be completed. Miller stated that the elementary students were kept in from morning recess and the cadet teachers did not leave the high school to go to their cadet teaching assignments at the other schools on campus. Miller said inside the schools everything operated normally and it was business as usual. Miller said the Dexter Police gave them an all clear about 9 a.m. The Dexter Statesman will release any further information as it becomes available.
