2020 Dexter Homecoming Tailgate cancelled

Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Dexter Homecoming Tailgate scheduled for Sept. 25 has been cancelled. The cancellation was requested by the Dexter School District.

“Due to the concerns with COVID-19 and trying to safeguard students and community members,” said Dexter Superintendent Amy James, “We have decided to cancel the tailgate.”

According to James, the school is still planning as of now to crown the homecoming court at Charles Bland Stadium prior to the football game against Doniphan on Sept. 25.

Dexter Chamber Executive Director Alisha Trammell stated the chamber is working on an alternate plan to raise the city's school spirit for homecoming.

“I want to encourage businesses to show their Bearcat spirit by decorating inside and outside their business,” said Trammell, “especially during homecoming week.”

Trammell said the chamber plans to bring back the tailgate event in 2021.
