Ben Godwin, the director of the Stoddard County Health Center, has confirmed 51 new cases of COVID-19.

“The holidays are fast approaching and everyone wants to spend time with friends and family. We are not asking you to avoid these gatherings, but we do ask that you be mindful of your surroundings and do what you can to practice social distancing,” said Godwin. “Also please consider wearing a mask or other face covering while in public.”

Godwin also confirmed 71 recoveries on Friday. The county as a whole now sits at 1,916 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 379 active, 1,505 recoveries and 32 deaths.

Cases related to the nursing home and assisted living center outbreaks are currently at a total of 190 confirmed cases with 57 active, 113 recoveries and 20 deaths.

Godwin also released an updated community breakdown of active cases. These numbers do not reflect the cases in the nursing home and assisted living center outbreaks.

Dexter now sits at 145 active cases, Advance 41, Bernie 38, Bloomfield 37, Puxico and Bell City each 20, Essex 13, Dudley 7 and Oran 1.

Although Oran is not in Stoddard County some of the rural housing outside of Oran is located in Stoddard County. Even though these houses carry an Oran address, any COVID-19 cases within these homes are counted on the Stoddard County total.

“We cannot express enough how important it is for you to social distance yourselves from others,” said Godwin. “Masking, while not mandatory, is highly-recommended while in groups. Simple measures to reduce your opportunity to be infected by COVID-19 will go a long way in keeping you safe, as well as your family, safe. Please be smart out there.”
