One dead, one sought after overnight shooting

Poplar Bluff police are seeking a man considered armed and dangerous following a shooting death Tuesday night on Clare Avenue.

Caleb Scowden is currently being sought for questioning in reference to this investigation. Scowden is described as a white male in his 30’s who is approximately 6’2”, 180 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Police were called shortly after midnight for shots fired in the 800 block of Clare Avenue, according to a press release.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male laying on the ground who was unconscious and had been shot,” PBPD reported. “Officers provided medical aid until the arrival of EMS. It was later determined the individual who was transported to the hospital by ambulance had expired.”

The identity of the individual is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin by the coroner.

“Due to the circumstances, Scowden should be considered armed. If you have information on his whereabouts, call your local law enforcement and do not approach him,” police said.
