The Dexter Police Department and the Stoddard County Juvenile Office conducted a firearms investigation at Dexter High School on Tuesday.
According to Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout, a handgun was recovered from the vehicle of a 16-year-old female student. Trout said the vehicle was parked on school property at the time. Trout also said the firearm was not loaded nor was any ammunition found.
Trout said the juvenile office took custody of the female student and she was transported to the Stoddard County Detention Center.
Trout said no threats of violence were made at any time during the investigation.
