Carolyn Kay Scales, daughter of the late Rueben Whitehead and Louise Green Whitehead, was born in Campbell, Missouri Feb. 12, 1941 and departed this life at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri March 9, 2025 at the age of 84.
Mrs. Scales had worked at Brown Shoe Company she ran samples, she later worked at Paramount Hat Factory in Dexter. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion in Malden, Missouri and was a member of Bethany General Baptist Church of Rural Campbell.
She was united in marriage to Joe Marion Scales in Campbell, Missouri April 18, 1964. Mr. Scales preceded his wife in death April 8, 2019.
Survivors include one son, Joe Anthony Scales and wife, Laura, of Dade City, Florida; daughter, Kelly Owens and husband, Dwight, of Bernie, Missouri; one brother, Mike Whitehead of Bernie; her sister-in-law, Annita Hurley of Bernie; four grandchildren, Lindsey Scales, Rachel Scales, Krystal Hobgood and husband, Derek, and Waylon Owens and wife, Kendra; five great-grandchildren, Bella, Mila and Vance Owens and Dalton and Cane Hobgood; also by other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5- 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri. Funeral services was to be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie. Interment will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Missouri.
