City denies petition for more street signs

A petition was recently submitted to the Dexter Board of Aldermen for consideration and has since been denied. The petition, signed by 20 residents, requested additional signage along N. Sassafras St. Specifically, the individuals were requesting: that speed limit signs be placed on N. Sassafras stating the 20 mph speed limit. (In response, Police Chief Sammy Stone noted that according to ordinance, the speed limit along that street is 25 mph.)...

Rain could continue into weekend

Although Southeast Missouri saw a slight reprieve from the damp weather Wednesday afternoon, the rain and storms are far from over. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., additional storms are possible through the rest of the week and into the weekend. Proposed ordinance would simplify synthetic drug arrests

2010 Dexter graduate Chance Holden almost missed out on a chance to compete at the Sectional qualifying tournament of the U.S. Amateur. "It was a last minute deal," Holden said of signing up for the late July event. "My coach at Arkansas State sent a text message to me and a couple of my teammates to remind us the deadline for the U.S. Amateur qualifier was at 4 p.m. I read that text message at about 3:30 so I got online as fast as I could and signed up. I submitted my entry at 3:57 p.m."...
