The Great Egret

This Great Egret was spotted recently on Cypress Lake at Otter Slough as it captured a snack from the shallow waters. Also called the Great White Egret, the birds can stand as high as 3.3 feet, with a wingspan of up to 67 inches. They can be distinguished from other white egrets by their yellow bill and black legs and feet. Male and female birds are identical in appearance. The birds are plentiful at the slough, located southwest of dexter.
