Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 05/23/2014

Friday, May 23, 2014

A fair amount of hay and alfalfa has been cut in various places
around the state. The quality has been highly variable. The first
warnings about true army worms has been issued for the Southern
region of the state. Few sales are being made and many of those are
bargain shoppers getting lower quality hay from last year. Market
prices for new crop hay have yet to find a settling point as not enough
is ready to sell, or contract prices were based on other factors rather
than the hay being made available on the open market. Hay supply is moderate,
demand is light and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture
has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or
for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ or for current
listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and
per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed
