Winter storm blankets county

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

It appears Punxsutawney Phil was right. Forecasters predicted six to 12 inches of snow would blanket Stoddard County Sunday night, and they were just about on the money. Dexter awoke to about five inches on the ground Monday morning, and a steady and blowing snow increased that to about seven inches by mid-morning, accompanied by temperatures in the teens and low 20s. A wintry mix of sleet and snow began falling in the area around 10 p.m. Sunday night, turning to just snow before midnight. Many residents began clearing sidewalks and drives by 8 a.m., only to have to repeat the process before noon. The storm made for a picturesque view of the city streets, but left traveling conditions daunting, especially for vehicles not equipped with four-wheel drive.
