Early risers in the area were treated to a seldom seen phenomena Friday morning as trees and shrubs were blanketed with "freezing fog." Freezing fog is actually water droplets that freeze upon contact with objects they encounter, forming a layer of thin ice. The phenomena occurs because the water is supercooled -- its temperature is below normal freezing point, but it has remained liquid. Freezing fog differs from ice fog, which is made up of tiny particles of ice. When the sun came out Friday morning, the frozen fog flakes could be seen and heard dropping from the trees.
