Tuesday, March 17, 2020

STORY UPDATED

All county schools have canceled classes Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, April 3 amid concerns over the Coronavirus.

Statements released by the schools via email and Facebook stated this decision was made after gathering information from health officials and other county school officials. School officials also listened to community leaders and parents before taking this action. The decision was also made to reduce the burden on the healthcare community by helping.

Additionally during the closure no school activities will take place and all facilities will be closed to the public. The Bell City and Dexter school districts are developing a plan to assist families in need of help during the school closure.

Puxico, Bernie and Bloomfield schools will have a pickup-and-go lunch and breakfast bags free to all students starting March 23. Richland will begin the program on March 20. Advance Schools will also begin the program on March 23 and have a form on its Facebook page to be filled out for the program.

The schools are working on details such as pickup times for the bags.

The schools will undergo deep cleaning and disinfecting.

Updates will be provided via the district website, texts, emails and social media.

“The safety of our students, staff and community is our highest priority,” a statement released by the schools said. “We will continue to evaluate the next steps for our school as information becomes available and provide information through our email notification system as well as through our website.”

It is not yet known if these days will be made up.
