Storms trap cars at Mingo;downs multiple trees and knocks out power in Puxico area

Sunday, May 3, 2020

The Puxico Fire Department responded to multiple calls following the storms Sunday afternoon, including one at the Mingo Wildlife Refuge.

Puxico Fire Chief Eugene Goodale said his department responded to the refuge after a call came in reporting multiple vehicles trapped by fallen trees. Goodale said he was not aware of any injuries and the people who had been on the refuge were not trapped themselves. Their vehicles could not leave because trees were laying across the roads.

Goodale said as the Puxico Fire Department worked to free the vehicles a crew from Mingo arrived with heavy equipment to finish the job. Once the fire department was no longer needed, it returned to Puxico to begin removing several trees downed by the storms around the city.

Goodale stated that there were multiple power outages in and around Puxico. As of about 7:15 p.m. Goodale said he believed the majority of the power had been restored.
