James Wendell “Wendell” Taylor
James Wendell “Wendell” Taylor passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on the morning of December 11th in Spruce Pine, NC.
Wendell was born on May 21, 1935 in Delight, Arkansas to Carl and Ruby-Dell Taylor. Wendell grew up in Dexter, alongside his sister Rebecca (Charlie). In his career, Wendell was a teacher, principal, real estate agent, restaurateur, and DIY home remodeler. His teaching took him to Palatine, IL, St. Louis, MO, Crete, IL, Holly Springs, MS, and Gulfport, MS. In life, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (Papaw).
Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Patricia Shell Taylor (1934 - 2016). He is survived by his sister, Rebecca, his only child, Susan (Nadim), four grandchildren Tarek (Dalia), Leila, Nadia, and Sharif (Tayllor), three great-grandchildren Aliyah, Mariam, and Eesa and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wendell was kind, quiet, patient, and generous. He was an avid reader of thriller novels and delighted in finding good deals. Wendell was a constant presence in his family’s life - Attending every graduation, piano recital, and battle of the bands competitions. He loved making his grandchildren smile. Fond memories include long summer days at the swimming pool, pick-up truck rides, biking in the halls of Central Junior High, and times he hitched a red flyer wagon to his John Deere riding lawnmower. His family will always cherish the many belly laughs, smiles and joy he brought to their lives.
Wendell requested that his family hold a private family memorial service at his daughter’s house.
