James McCoy

James Grover McCoy born March 19, 1929, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024 at his home in St. Louis, Missouri at age 95.

James was the devoted husband of Billie Jean McCoy (Heigle) who he joined in marriage June 26, 1953; loving father of his children: son, James “Greg” (Lee Ann) McCoy who preceded him in death, daughter, Kim (Kevin) Donica, and son, Jaime (Brandy) McCoy. James was an adoring grandfather to: Teresa (Jesse) Cook, Becky (Kyle) Noble, Gregory (Jacqueline) McCoy, Kirsten (Jon) Poe, Evan (Hillary) Donica, Aaron (Katie) Donica, Kassie (Keegan) Crotchett, and Sarah McCoy. He was a cherished great-grandfather of Lucas Cook, Nyssa Cook, Logan Snider, Desiree Snider, Vincent McCoy, Reese Watters, Ashar Poe, Ethan Poe, Olivia Poe, Zane Poe, Eloise Donica, Juniper Donica, and Orlando Donica. James was one of 12 siblings in the extended McCoy family and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

James was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Navy post-World War 2 and Korean War. He was an educator in the Puxico School District for 30 years welcoming students to the “Home of Happiness” everyday. He was a farmer, good neighbor, and caring friend who always looked to help where and how he could. He loved to visit with family, play cards and dominoes, and stay current in history and current events.

SERVICES: A celebration of James’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 18, 2024 at the Church of Christ in Dexter, Missouri (1014 N 1 Mile Rd, Dexter, Missouri 63841). Lunch afterwards at the onsite fellowship hall. Military honors burial at Stars and Stripes cemetery at Bloomfield, Missouri at 3 p.m.
