Evil machines run the world!
Keurig, I hate you!!!
This morning, I'm sitting in the quiet, dark living room of my daughter's house in Memphis, wishing I had a cup of coffee.
I've tried twice, being as quiet as possible, trying not to wake her and her husband, sleeping in the next room, but so far, all I've been able to accomplish is two half-cups of hot water with coffee grounds. About a half-cup of water has leaked out on the cabinet both times.
I could make a cup of tea, but that would involve a racket, and I choose to sit quietly, sipping on a stale can of Lime-A-Rita that someone left open on the coffee table. Some breakfast drink...
My dilemma only reminds me of how much I hate technology.
Why do things have to change??
What was wrong with the glass percolators--other than an occasional broken carafe, early in the morning on a Sunday, when all the stores were closed...(before the days of the all-night delights of Walmart and Walgreen)
"I grow old, I grow old. I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.."
The world is passing me by, as I struggle to maintain my sanity in an ever-changing landscape of iphones and tablets and smart phones and cars with dashboards so complicated that I can't even turn on the radio...
My 7-year-old grandson gets Christmas presents that I can't even fathom...video games and little mechanical bugs that zip around on the floor like cockroaches... How can those things be? There's not even room for a battery!
Some time back, a friend of mine had a visit from his granddaughter, who brought his 1-year-old great-granddaughter. The child was fascinated by one of those little old-fashioned rotary telephones that have rolling eyes.
However, at the same time, if the granddaughter handed the baby her cell phone, the child took her tiny finger and scrolled through it till she found her games to play!
I once saw an adorable video of an even younger baby, sitting on the floor with a magazine, and, sure enough, she was trying to change the pictures by touching them with her tiny finger!
My mind is fairly boggled by our rapid progress toward the unknown future.
Of course, I haven't had my coffee this morning...and this Lime-A-Rita is kicking my butt at 6:30 in the morning...
