Ester Asbell

Ester Grace Asbell, 97, died April 7, 2024, at the Prairie View Skilled Nursing Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.

She was born April 11, 1926, in Ezra, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late John Adams and Grace Strobel McCain Adams.

Ester worked as a seamstress in the Elder Factory in Bloomfield for many years. She was known for her beautiful flowers and yard work, and she loved cooking for her family. Her famous chocolate chip cookies were a hit for all. Ester was also a member of the Liberty Hill General Baptist Church in Aid, Missouri.

On Oct. 9, 1943, she married Walter Asbell. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Ester loved her family dearly, she had three children, two of which preceded her in death: infant son, Ronnie Walter Asbell and daughter, Jewell Maddox.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Jewell Teets, Amos McCain, Aaron McCain, W.A. McCain, and John Quincy Adams.

Ester is survived by her daughter, Janice (Bill) Aslin of Bloomfield, Missouri; Buddy Maddox, son-in-law; four grandchildren, Buddy Jr. (Laura) Maddox, Travis (Cathy) Maddox, Sonja (Michael) Hobbs, and Sarah (Bret) Barton; nine great-grandchildren, Trevor (Amanda) Maddox, Troy (Emily) Maddox, Aleigha (Simon) McWhorter, Ariana Maddox, Erica (Evan) Qu, Megan Maddox, Brant Hobbs, Brooke Barton, and Kinley Barton; and three great-great-grandchildren, Vera Maddox, Hannah and Olivia Maddox.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will follow at noon. Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
