If you build it........
Seems every year some city has caved in to a proffesional team's demand of building a new venue for them to play in. This season is the inaugral year for the Washington Nationals new ball park. Beautiful park with a lot of "extras" for the family (if you can afford the extras!) but has attendance gone up just because of the new ball park? No, it hasn't.
This is the final year of existence for Yankee Stadium. As much as I am not a Yankee fan, I am a fan of baseball and history. It really bothers me that the hallowed ground where Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Roger Maris, Don Larsen, and on and on will be a parking lot when next season begins.
Yankee Stadium IS a museum and I can't believe that there aren't more historical groups trying to stop the demise. There should never be an oil stain from someone's 1985 Buick where Babe Ruth stood in the batters box of the one and only Yankee Stadium! This place has earned a place in history very much like the Coliseum in Rome...... OK, people didn't die in Yankee Stadium while competing, but you get my drift. Will the Coliseum ever be condemned to blacktop? I don't think so! How do you feel?
