Remember Whens
Posted Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 8:23 AM
Every so often, things of old come to mind, (by virtue of the mind being so old itself, I suppose). Anyway, here are a few...feel free to expound on any others...
white shoe polish
white rain
rain hats that tied under the chin
skorts
$7 concert tickets
Cher Pants
Angora around HS rings
Ballerina bras
Orange Coppertone tans (especially the hands)
Dibbs
Chapel veils
Hopscotch
Pez
Peds
Nickel returns on soda bottles
Roller skate keys
Church keys (Southern Baptists probably won't know this one)
Bali Hai
Croquet

Do kids still catch tadpoles and watch them till they either turn into frogs or float at the top of the mason jar?
Ever raise seahorses? I did. And guppies.
I've SO enjoyed your rememberances. Took me right back to the late 50's (or was it the 80's..I couldn't be that old). I don't recall the root beer thingies, but that's probably because we were rarely privy to a drive-in restaurant. And what I recall about Christmas is that it wasn't all toys and electronics...I recall getting a blanket for my bed and being THRILLED! Not that I was freezing, but it was just SO cozy.
AND...how about catching lightening bugs in Mason jars...now I know there are still lightening bugs and I have plenty of jars in my cabinets, so why don't we see kids doing that anymore? Are they too busy playing on their Playstations? I say get them outside. We can go inside and enjoy the AC...we've earned it. They haven't!
Does it make you wonder what kind of women grow up not knowing what chapel veils are? What is this, the Bible Belt or something? Pity the poor girl who attended Catholic (oh, that's the problem) Mass without a chapel veil. You could bet on an elder female of the parish pulling out a Kleenex (used or not) and bobby-pinning it to your head.
And speaking of bobby pins..there's another "remember when."
Girls...I've SOOOOOO enjoyed all the "whens." It's a never-ending list..oh, the memories. I do have some afterall!
