Back in history with the Black Powder Rendezvous

Tuesday, October 22, 2013
Cheyenne is a regular at the Bloomfield Black Powder Rendezvous each year.

The Stoddard County community of Bloomfield seems to attract history. Every October, history buffs come to the region for a Black Powder Rendezvous. Though Saturday morning, Oct. 12 was a "wash out" for the assorted campers at the Black Powder Rendezvous in the field south of Bloomfield, visitors came out in droves on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Wandering back through history, the visitors stopped to watch a blacksmith at work shaping metal tools, listen to homespun ballads, practice their archery skills and hatchet-throwing, and watch children play on the hillside.

A couple from Bloomfield joined the folks, dressed in period costume, and this reporter even saw a former Dexter band director walking from booth to booth in his buckskin shoes and hat.

A blacksmith demonstration is a part of the encampment.

It was a fun event for all, and it happens every October. Put it on your calendar next year!

Several interesting characters come to life in the pasture south of Bloomfield.
