Corps Implements Burn Ban at Campgrounds, Picnic Areas and Remote Accesses

Wednesday, October 19, 2022

October 19, 2022, Wappapello Lake– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake has issued a burn ban to protect visitors and resources, until further notice due to dry conditions in the region. The ban prohibits the use of charcoal or wood fires. Visitors to public recreation areas and campgrounds on Wappapello Lake may use attended gas grills or stove tops. All forms of fire in remote access areas are prohibited. It just takes a small spark, which can escape into grass or nearby brush, to rapidly spread due to dry, breezy weather conditions. Vegetation is dry enough that it will burn even if it appears green. Recent drought conditions and free-falling leaves can mean the rapid spread of forest fires. Please help us keep your public lands safe and enjoyable.Wayne County has implemented a burn ban in the county.
