Incumbents retain seats on Dexter School Board;County Marijuana Tax passes

Stoddard County voters overwhelmingly passed a three percent sales tax on retail sales of adult marijuana. The tax passed by a count of 1,598 to 575 no. Voters in Dexter passed the same tax on a city level by a count of 389 yes to 93 no.

Dexter voters also decided two key races in the city. All three incumbents retained their seats in the school board race. Ben Worley received 867 votes, Saren Demaree 774 votes, Ron Glaus 760 votes and challenger William “Will” Rushing 296 votes.

In the Ward II alderman race, Tim Aslin held off three challengers to retain his seat. Aslin received 162 votes, Tyler Juden 91 votes, Larry Rogers 23 votes and Rodney Rauscher 18 votes.

Advance voters made an impact Tuesday in the Municipal Election by electing a new mayor. Incumbent Ryan Slinkard came up short in his bid for reelection. Slinkard received 57 votes but Daniel Seger received 179 to become the new mayor. Candidate Dustin James received 21 votes.

In Advance Ward I Chase Robins defeated Timothy Hill Sr. 88 votes to 70. In Ward II Austin Hake defeated William Woodard 60 votes to 31.

In Bernie, voters passed the Proposition Kids 234 votes yes to 28 votes no. This bond issue will allow the district to make important safety upgrades among other projects.

The tightest race may have been the Bloomfield School Board race. Justin Jarrell receives 214 votes, Cecil Haley 198 votes and Greg Stevens grabbed the third and final seat with 184 votes, holding Loyd Rice off by 5 votes. Rice received 179 votes and Brandon Jines 99 votes.

Township Races

In Liberty Township Terry Battles and Ricky Stearns secured seats on the township board. Stearns received 848 votes, Battles 738 votes and Mark Putnam 510. Billy Fowler won the treasurer seat wth 808 votes to 431 votes for Lana Logan Temples. The Liberty Township Tax Levy passed by a count of 655 votes yes to 561 no.

In Duckcreek Township Doug Lowery and Curtis Clark secured seats on the township board. Lowery received 131 votes, Clark 96 votes and Matt Armstrong received 82 votes.

The Elk Township Tax Levy passed by a count of 4 votes to 1 vote.

The Dudley Special Road District Tax Levy did not pass as it received 10 votes yes and 10 no.
